AFRICA’S YOUNGEST BILLIONAIRE JOINS INITIATIVE FOR GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT’S LEADERSHIP COUNCIL

The Initiative for Global Development (IGD) is pleased to announce the new Corporate Co-Chair of the IGD Leadership Council. Mohammed Dewji, Group CEO of Mohammed Enterprise Tanzania Limited (MeTL). Dewji will join fellow Corporate Co-Chair Lewis Kaden and Leadership Council Co-Chairs Secretary Madeleine K. Albright and General Colin L. Powell.
“IGD is honored to welcome Mr. Dewji to our Leadership Council,” said Lisa Nelson, interim CEO and President of IGD. “This group of accomplished business leaders and global development experts has been influential in shaping IGD’s strategic direction and unique offerings, to drive poverty reduction through strategic business growth.”
Dewji will bring unique insights and understanding to his role as Corporate Co-Chair of IGD’s Leadership Council, offering his firsthand experience growing MeTL in Tanzania. He, along with 7o ther African CEOs, will offer an African experience for Africa, guiding IGD’s strategic direction offerings to best deliver value for CEOs and companies operating in Africa.
Dewji joined IGD as a member of the influential Frontier Leaders network in July of 2012. In addition to his role as Group CEO of MeTL, Dewji serves as a Member of Parliament in Tanzania, a role he has held since 2005. His work transforming MeTL into a billion dollar business has earned him recognition as one of Forbes’ “Ten Most Powerful Men in Africa,” and the youngest African millionaire.
