The
Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has settled for Herve Renards
as Zambia National Soccer Team Coach to replace Italian coach Dario Bonetti.
Bonetti
was dismissed on October 10, after guiding Zambia to the 2012 Africa Cup of
Nationals finals slated for Gabon and Equatorial
Guinea.
According to a press statement
issued to ZANIS by FAZ in Lusaka yesterday, the decision to re appoint Renard
was reached during an executive emergency meeting on Thursday night and he will
be offered a one- year contract and will be assisted by physical trainer
Patrice Beaumelle while Honour Janza will be part of the technical staff.
FAZ Communication Manager Erick
Mwanza, said FAZ was confident that under Mr Renard the
national team would effectively compete for the title.
Mwanza called on soccer fans to
rally behind Renard and support the national team as it prepares for the Africa
cup of nations slated for 2012.
The 42-year-old Frenchman joined the Chipopolo in 2008 after
serving as an assistant to the then Ghana coach Claude Leroy.
But he quit the Chipolopolo post last year to coach Angola despite
leading Zambia into its first Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final in 14 years.
He guided the Zambian soccer players to a third place finish in
the maiden African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Ivory Coast in 2009.
Italian coach Bonetti succeeded him after being appointed in July
last year on a two-year contract.
