Zambia’s National Team Coach Herve Renard has today unveiled a 25-man squad for the commencement of the national team locally called “ the Chipolopolo “ to a training camp to prepare the team for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations finals. The first phase of training for the Chipolopolo will from Tuesday 6th December to 22nd December when the coach will allow the players take a break to be with their families and relatives for Christmas. There will be no break for the New Year holiday as the squad would have shifted base to Johannesburg for final camp.“ The first phase of the will have intensive training and some practice sessions with the international match against Angola on 18th December in Dundo being the highlight. The team base is the Golfview Hotel, “ says the Football of Zambia (FAZ )on its official website.On return from Angola, the coach will announce his final 26-man squad for the second and final intensive training camp which will be held in Johannesburg South Africa. This camp will run from 27th December to 17th January when the team will flies into Equatorial Guinea.
Addressing a media briefing at Football House in Lusaka,today, FAZ Communications Manager Erick Mwanza said, “As always, and as stated in our policy, we are pleased to reaffirm our commitment and resolve to provide the squad with the best possible training environment and prepare the team adequately so that when the tournament kicks off on January 21, we are ready for the challenge of any opponent.”
“Working with Government and other partners and sponsors, we have demonstrated in the past, most recently, in the build-up to the Nations Cup finals Angola 2010 when the team received and underwent some of the best preparations ever done by any Zambian team going into a major finals tournament, that we can always do better and be ready for any challenge. “ We intend do as well as we did – even better – so that we go to Gabon and Equatorial Guinea to compete for the title and have a successful tournament,” he said.
