Kasempa district council deputy
secretary Dominic Makisa has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm
by Zambia Police for physically attacking K FM station manager, Nyambe
Muyumbana in Kasempa.
In an interview with MISA Zambia,
Muyumbana confirmed that Makisa was arrested yesterday, and was later put on
police bond.
Muyumbana told MISA Zambia that the
district council secretary stoned him last Saturday, 15 February, 2014
following a story carried on K FM which alleged that the district council
deputy secretary had teamed up with a senior government official in Kasempa to
reverse the K70 thousand Community Development Fund allocated to K FM Community
Radio Station.
“Makisa was tipped of my whereabouts
and he followed me. When he arrived, he slapped me. Onlookers tried to restrain
him but he over powered them and chased me, stoning me from behind,” said
Muyumbana.
The K FM Station Manager added that
much to his disbelief, the senior government official aiding Makisa had
instructed Mukinge Mission Hospital senior officials not to give him a medical
report, saying that the medical report would only be available the following Monday
(17 February).
“I had to travel from Kasempa
district to Solwezi district in order to get a medical report. Mukinge Mission
Hospital refused to give me any further treatment apart from a few pain
killers,” he said.
Muyumbana’s medical report has since
been signed by doctors at Solwezi General Hospital.
Makisa has since been charged with
assault occasioning bodily harm and the hearing will take place on Friday 21,
February in Kasempa’s magistrate court.
