MOBILE HOSPITALS GO FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH

More than three thousand Zambians living in Mufumbwe and Kasempa Districts have been nursed back to health thanks to the new Mobile Hospitals.
The units, which were introduced to the North-western Province just two months ago, have already revolutionized healthcare services in some of Zambia’s more remote regions – helping people access affordable, cost-effective and quality medical care.
The hospitals have already become a mainstay of daily life, with hundreds of thousands of Zambians now happily expecting to be treated at a mobile unit, should they need it.
In an interview in Solwezi, North-western Provincial Medical Officer Dr. George Liabwa praised the “overwhelming support” of local people for the local mobile hospitals, which have already undertaken a remarkable 25 operations.
On receiving the latest figures, President Banda commented: “My government and I have put access to high quality, affordable healthcare at the centre of our ambition for Zambia. We have recruited nearly 6,000 brilliant health workers to help us achieve this – but the new mobile hospital units are key to our success. I am thrilled to see such a fast take up from the Zambian people – and to hear that real lives are being saved as a result of this initiative.”
From July, people in Kabompo and Zambezi will be able to access their own local specialized health care services, as the roll out of the mobile units progresses towards its target to serve all the rural parts of Zambia’s nine provinces.
President Banda added: “My government had a dream to provide equal access to healthcare – but it is the doctors and medical staff in North-western Provide who must be commended for helping us bring this dream to life for local people here. Together, we can build a better future for all Zambians, where everybody enjoys access to education, employment and healthcare befitting tomorrow’s Zambia.”
