Lundazi
District Commissioner (DC) Janet Mumba says government attaches great
importance to the development of various sports programmes in schools
Ms.
Mumba said it is through sports that talented pupils in various sporting skills
excel to earn their livelihood and develop their talent a spirit of cooperation
and hard work virtues in order for Zambia to develop.

sports reports the District Commissioner saying this in Lundazi over the
weekend.
This
was when she officiated at the 2012 inter school indoor games competition held
at Lundazi secondary school.
Ms.
Mumba urged school pupils to offer their commitment to sporting disciplines if
they were be role model in their schools in the district.
“Furthermore, I urge all pupils to concentrate on their academic work as they
focus on sporting activities in order to brighten their future and the future
of the country, “ she said.
Ms.
Mumba observed that sports help exchange different views, learn from each other
and share memorable moments, hence the need to those who win to continue
working hard and those that would not do well not to give up.
The
DC has however, cautioned teachers and participants of the dangers of HIV/AIDS
adding that abstinence was the best weapon against the disease.
Speaking
on behalf of the District Education Board Secretary “DEBS” Herbet Mwiinga,
Lundazi District Education Standard Officer DESO, Chiza Mtonga called on pupils
to consider sports as their career.
Mr.
Mtonga said sports minded pupils should dedicate and commit themselves to
sports to effectively compete in basketball, volleyball, table tennis and
badminton , among other sports disciplines.
He
revealed that sport is not only a source of income where one can earn a living
through it, but also to help improve the immune system and keep the mind
refreshed.
He
disclosed that his office is doing everything possible to support and sustain
sport in the district which he said is in line with government policy of
broadening career options for all pupils.
The
District Education Board Secretary has since appealed to the participants to
maintain high levels of discipline and guard against abusing the hospitality of
the host school by vandalizing infrastructure and furniture among other
things.
