Opposition
Forum for Democratic Alternatives party president Ludwig Sondashi has sent a
message of condolence to First Republican President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda and the
Kaunda family over the passing away of mama Betty Kaunda.
And Dr.
Sondashi has advised the nation to mourn the first First Lady of Zambia with
dignity and love.
In a
statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka today, Dr. Sondashi noted that Mama
Betty Kaunda fought for the freedom of Zambia side by side with Dr. Kaunda, her
husband hence the country’s history cannot be written without a mention of her
name.
The
opposition leader further noted that without Mama Betty Kaunda’s support,
President Kaunda’s fight for the country’s freedom would have been extremely
difficult.
“On my
own behalf and on behalf of Mrs. Sondashi and the Forum for Democratic
Alternatives Party, I wish to send our heart-felt condolences to the First
President Dr. Kaunda and the Kaunda family over the passing away of mama Betty
Kaunda, the first First Lady of Zambia. We in FDA party would wish Zambia to
mourn this matriarch with dignity and profound love. May Almighty God receive
her soul,” reads the statement in part.
Mama Betty Kaunda died this
week on Tuesday evening in Zimbabwe where she had gone to visit her daughter.
