United States Ambassador to
Zambia Mark Storella has expressed deep sympathy and sadness over the death of
Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba speaking people in Northern Province.
Ambassador Storella delivered his
message of condolences when he paid a courtesy call on acting Paramount Chief
Chitimukulu in Malole yesterday.
He said he knew the late
Paramount Chief Chitimukulu personally and that his death was, therefore, a
tragic loss to the nation.
Ambassador Storella observed that
the late traditional ruler showed a lot of love and friendship to him and his
delegation when they first met last year.
He described the late Chitimukulu
as a committed national leader who wanted to see the improvement of lives for
his people.
And that acting Paramount
Chitimukulu thanked mbassador Storella and his delegation for mourning with the
people of Northern Province the death of the Paramount Chief Chitimukulu.
He said the visit of Ambassador
Storella to Paramount Chief Chitimukulu’s palace is sign of true friendship
existing between the people of America and Zambia.
The acting Paramount Chief
further encouraged the American Government to continue with its assistance to
the underprivileged in the nation.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Storella
has pledged financial assistance to a chicken rearing project in Paramount
Chief Chitimukulu’s area in Malole.
He made the commitment when he
visited Kafula village in Paramount Chief Chitimukulu’s area where the chicken
project is located.
