Thirty
one (31) families have been left homeless at Chimwakila fishing Camp in
Mazabuka district following a fire that swept through the fishing camp.
The fire
whose cause is not yet known swept thorough Chimwakila fishing camp that is
situated along the banks of the Kafue River burning down to ashes all the 31
glass thatched houses that were dotted next to each other.
And
property worth millions of kwacha that included household goods, clothings and
undisclosed dry fish bundles were also destroyed by the inferno which is said
to have started around 09:00 hours today.
Chimwakila
fishing camp Chairman Davison Hamakani told Mazabuka District Commissioner Eugene
Munyama who quickly rushed to the area that the 31 families that have lost
their houses at the moment do not have any means of shelter.
Mr
Hamakani however said no loss of life was recorded as a result of the inferno
because people managed to come out of their houses immediately the fire
started.
The Camp
Chairman has since asked the office of the District Commissioner for any
possible assistance towards the victims saying the affected families which
include small children have been left with completely nothing in terms of
shelter and food.
And Mr
Munyama who addressed the affected families assured them that government
through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit will find means and ways of
assisting the families.
Mr
Munyama who described the loss of houses and property as a disaster said his
office will ensure that government through its relevant authorities will render
assistance to affected families to ensure they live decent lives.
