POLICE ASKS SAMSUNG TO HELP EASE DISPOSAL OF COUNTERFEIT PRODUCTS

Lusaka Province Commissioner of Police, Solomon Jere has called on Samsung Electronics Limited to help the Zambia Police Service with facilities that will ease the disposing of hazardous materials from confiscated counterfeit Samsung products.
Dr. Jere said the police have the capacity to confiscate and dispose of counterfeit products but lack facilities and storage facilities to store counterfeit products before they are destroyed.
He also asked the government to create an organized body that will consist of officials from both Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Commence which should stiffen border controls through which these products into Zambia.
 Dr. Jere was speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka today where Samsung Vice President George Ferreia also spoke.
At the same occasion, Samsung Vice President and Chief Operations Officer George Ferreia commended the Zambia Police Service its work to remove counterfeit products from the market.
Mr. Ferreia however noted that it was unfortunate that government was losing huge sums of money as this act limits government income and investors loss confidence.
He has also said that Samsung is ready to work hand in hand with relevant authorities in Zambia.
 Samsung is in Zambia for a week to conduct awareness that will restore its customers’ confidence and also educate their customers on counterfeit Samsung products.
He said this following an operation the police carried out in Lusaka and the Copperbelt provinces respectively which saw the recovery of K8.2 billion worth of confiscated Samsung products
