MTN ZAMBIA DONATES K86 MILLION TOWARDS LIKUMBI LYA-MIZE TRADITIONAL CEREMONY


MTN Zambia has donated K86 million towards the Likumbi Lya-mize traditional ceremony of the Luvale people of the North Western Province of Zambia to be held on September 1st to 4th this year.
And MTN Zambia says it has invested close to K400 million in supporting numerous regional cultural activities across the country.
The ceremony will be held in Zambezi district at senior Chief Ndungu's palace.
MTN Zambia Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Farhad Khan who presented the cheque to the Likumbi Lya-Mize Cultural Association in Lusaka today reiterated his organisation's commitment to preserving Zambia's rich cultural heritage.
Mr. Khan further said his firm which will be the main sponsor of the ceremony is happy to be associated with supporting the Likumbi Lya-mize traditional ceremony which he described as unique.
“MTN Zambia will be the main sponsor of the 2010 Likumbi Lya-mize traditional ceremony and will provide sponsorship of K86m towards the ceremony. We have already provided support to numerous regional cultural activities across the country and to-date, MTN has invested close to K400m,” Mr. Khan said
And receiving the donation, Likumbi Lya-mize Cultural Association Fund-raising Committee Chairperson Gideon Kaumba thanked MTN for the gesture.
Mr. Kaumba called on other corporate organisations to come on board and partner with the Likumbi Lya-mize Cultural Association.
He disclosed that the Association is targeting to raise K150 million for the successful holding of the ceremony. He noted that to this effect, the association will be holding a dinner dance on July 23 at the Lusaka Inter-Continental Hotel.
In a similar development, MTN Zambia has renovated the main arena of the Mutomboko traditional ceremony of the Lunda people which will be held on July 31st, this year.
MTN Zambia Chief Executive Officer Farhad Khan further pledged to support the Mutomboko traditional ceremony.
The Mutomboko traditional ceremony of the Lunda speaking people of Paramount Chief Mwata Kazembe will be held in Mwansabombwe in Kawambwa District of Luapula Province.
