Unknown people are reported to be trailing aspiring Siavonga Member of Parliament (MP) candidate Lovemore Kanyama who are also issuing him with death threats.
Disclosing this to ZANIS in Lusaka in an interview today, Mr Kanyama , who is a Lusaka resident, said that he was receiving ‘ death threats ‘ from unknown people over his intentions to contest the Siavonga parliamentary seat.
Douglas Syakalima is the incumbent MP for Siavonga.
Mr. Kanyama told ZANIS that he reported the matter two months ago to the Central Police in Lusaka where he told the Police that his ‘ assailant ‘ have issued his a two-days ultimatum in which he should withdrawal his candidature as MP or lose his life.
“A person came to me an introduced himself as a Cop and told to withdrawal my candidature for MP or l will be dead in two-days’ time. He told me that he knew my registration number as well as my residential area where l stay,” he lamented.
The aspiring candidate appealed to Police deal this matter in a professional manner and bring the culprits to book.
“I implore the Police to do their work professionally and trace the people behind this dragnet,” Mr. Kanyama said.
However, Mr. Kanyama has vowed that no amount of intimidation will stop him from contesting the Siavonga seat if adopted on the United Party for National Development (UPND) ticket.
“No amount of threats and intimidation will stop me from standing the Siavonga seat because l have done all the necessary ground work to guarantee my position of vying for the seat,” he said.
Recently , Mr. Kanyama accused area MP Syakalima of having neglected the people of Siavonga district in Southern Province.
Mr. Kanyama alleged that there were no drugs in health centers in Siavonga adding that there were also inadequate personnel in schools in the area. He also alleged that Chiefs’ palaces in the area were collapsing.
He noted that it was the duty of the area parliamentarian to facilitate and bring development closer to the people.
He maintained that this time around, Mr. Kanyama would give Mr. Syakalima a good run ahead of the parliamentary elections should the opposition UPND adopt the aspiring MP.
Efforts to get a comment from Mr. Syakalima over the matter failed as his mobile phone was not reachable.
