The United States Embassy in Lusaka says it has resumed funding for progammes that support Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs) in the country.
U.S Embassy Acting Public Affairs Officer Dominic Randazzo confirmed the development in a release made available to ZANIS in Lusaka today.
Mr. Randazzo said that grants proposals for OVCs programmes are now being invited.
He said applications for the OVCs small Grants program will be accepted starting from January 10, 2011 to February 25,2011 for grants of up to $20 000.
He went on to say the program is offered by the President of the United States of America's Emergency plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), a global effort to fight HIV/AIDS with a focus on preventing new infections.
He said this program funds community -led efforts to help children who are orphaned or made vulnerable as a result of HIV/AIDS become self-sufficient.
Mr Randazzo further revealed that successful applications will include support for these children in the areas of education, skills for income generating, counseling services, targeted food and nutrition support and other emotional and material assistance.
He said this opportunity is open to community led groups or organizations that include neighbor hood groups, faith based organizations or institutions of learning.
He added that qualified applicants will provide evidence of previous successful projects and will be able to clearly demonstrate how the proposed project will be sustained over the long term .
Mr Randazzo said all proposals must be accompanied with evidence that the organization requesting for funding is a legally registered non profit organization.
