DEC NABS GOSPEL OUT REACH CENTRE PHARMACY DISPENSER

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested Pharmacy Dispenser at Gospel out Reach Centre in Lusaka for illegally selling Anti-Retroviral Drugs on in the streets.
Dexter Musengela, was arrested together with Dominic Mutambala, 71 and Teddy Chanda, 41 both businessmen after they were found with Zedovudine type of ARV’s which they were selling at Kulima Tower bus stop.
DEC Public Relations Manager John Nyawali told ZANIS in a statement that preliminary investigations have shown that the drugs were stolen from Gospel Out Reach Centre dispensary.
Mr. Nyawali said the trio are currently detained in Police custody and will be handed over to Pharmaceutical Regulatory Authority for prosecution.
Meanwhile 61 people were arrested countrywide in the last four days for trafficking in different quantities of cannabis with a total weight of 200 kilograms.
Among those arrested is a 32 year old Malawian national who was found with four bags of a different type of cannabis popularly known as Malawian Gold weighing over 150 kilograms.
Kennedy Gumbo of Mzimba district in Malawi was arrested from Lusaka’s industrial area along Luanshya road after a trail by a combined team of officers from Zambia Police and D.E.C.
Mr. Nyawali disclosed that Mr. Gumbo with five others was taking the Malawian Gold to Chibolya Township and that the two motor vehicles which were being used to ferry the cannabis have since been seized pending conclusion of the case in the courts of law.
The Commission has since reiterated its warning and that it will intensify its operation to ensure that all illicit drugs are mopped from the market and would further urge transporters to be cautious with the articles they carry to avoid  getting in trouble with the law.
