The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia has welcomed the appointment of Dr. Samson Phiri as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services.
MISA has also commended President Rupiah Banda for appointing Dr. Phiri as permanent secretary adding that Dr. Phiri will add value to the work of the ministry.
This is contained in a statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka today by MISA Acting Chairperson Joseph Mukandawire.
Mr. Mukandawire observed that Dr Phiri is an accomplished journalist with a track record of experience in both private and public media.
He said that Dr Phiri has also trained journalists and providing support to the media in southern Africa in the areas of media development, freedom of expression and media ethics making him suitable for the position.
He added that Dr Phiri has greatly contributed to the development and sustainability of the Zambian media through his work at the Nordic-SADC journalism centre where he was a media trainer and the Open Society Institute of the Southern Africa (OSISA) where he supported a number of community radio stations initiatives and provided funding for a number of critical advocacy campaigns.
