The Rural Electrification Authority has urged the Chinese firm African Brothers Corporation (ABC) to immediately commence the putting up of the power line electrification project that would cost K1.3 billion once completed in Chisankane ward in Shantumbu area.
REA had on August 9th 2010 signed a contract with the ABC to commence the putting up of the power line project within eight months time.
REA Corporate Affairs Manager Justin Mukosa said what REA wants was to see all rural areas across to be electrified by the 2030.
Speaking in Chisankane ward, in Shantumbu area today, Mr. Mukosa said this was why the Authority has been going round putting up such projects to try and empower people in rural areas with electricity.
He added that electricity was cardinal as it assists in improving the livelihood of the people and contributes to the development of the country.
Mr. Mukosa called upon the people in the area to ensure that they support the contractor so that the project can soon be implemented.
Meanwhile, Chisankane ward councilor Ozias Banda said once the putting up of the project commences and is completed very soon, it would add value to a lot of people’s lives in the area.
Mr. Banda added that the area has for a long time now been struggling to access electricity despite many calls being made.
And African Brothers Corporation Engineer Tian Hongquen assured REA that the corporation would ensure that it starts work and complete within the stipulated time.
He expressed happiness that the REA decided to pick on the ABC to put up the power line project in the area.
