FERTILIZER DELAY WORRIES SOLWEZI FARMERS

Nyiombo Investment a company contracted to deliver farming inputs under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) has not delivered close to 20,000 bags of D compound fertiliser in North western Province.
The delay in the supply of D compound fertilizer by Nyiombo investment has caused panic among farmers.
North western Province Agriculture Coordinator Charles Sondashi told ZANIS in Solwezi that his office was also concerned with the pace at which Nyiombo was delivering D compound fertilizer.
Mr Sondashi said Nyiombo investment has been sending the fertilizer in bits which has not been meeting the demand adding that farmers had already planted their crops and are expected to apply the basal fertilizer before the end of December.
He added that if not corrected the delay has the potential to negatively impact the crop production in the area.
Scores of angry farmers were found at Solwezi depot waiting for trucks which were said to be coming from Lusaka.
