President of Sudan - Bashir |
Sudanese Vice President Ali Osman Mohamed Taha on Sunday reiterated the Government's ability to preserve security and stability in the country during the upcoming Jan. 9 south Sudan referendum.
In an address on the anniversary of the declaration of Sudan Independence, Mr Taha said "noobody will be able to disturb our security and stability, neither on Jan. 9 nor after. The security is stable and the security organs are ready and alert.’’
He further warned that whoever would try to disturb the security or spread panic, from inside or outside the country, would be strongly repulsed.
The Chinese News Agency (Xinhua) reports that the Sudanese vice president further acknowledged that Sudan was facing a tight situation because of south Sudan referendum and the possibility of dividing the country into two states, saying this situation would never deter the country’s determination to build a strong and stable Sudan."
Taha, in the meantime, warned against manipulation with commodity prices, in reference to a recent increase in the prices of most of the commodities, particularly the food commodities in the Sudan market, around 20 days ahead of south Sudan referendum.
He directed Sudanese security authorities to deal with manipulators of commodity prices, saying whoever tried to cash in on people’s food, or store the commodities or seek illegal richness through exploitation of the people's needs, must be hit with an iron hand."
Coincidence with Taha's address, Khartoum witnessed a military march in which all the country's military and security organs took part, in a move that tended to reflect the military strength and ability of the security authorities to repulse any violence act.
Concerns increased over possibility that the south Sudan referendum would lead to armed clashes under the standing differences between north and south Sudan, particularly with regard to the post-referendum arrangements.
