MKUSHI PRAISED FOR AGRICULTURAL PROGRESS

Central Province Minister Ackimson Banda has expressed happiness with Mkushi District’s performance in agricultural development.
In a statement made during his tour of the district today, Mr Banda said Government was cheered by the agricultural exploits recorded in Mkushi over the past years saying that the district had been consistent in high crop output.
He noted that Government had been following keenly the rise of Central Province as a major agricultural region and that Mkushi had been amongst outstanding districts that had been scoring success in this regard.
Mr Banda said the development was in line with Government’s objective of consolidating food security and economic well being via promotion of agriculture as a livelihood.
He pointed out that the agricultural success being recorded in Mkushi has come as a result of hard work and that Government was calling on residents to continue embracing the culture of diligence.
Meanwhile, Mkushi District Commissioner Musonda Chunga revealed that the district was currently producing two thirds of the nation’s output for wheat crop.
Mr Chunga said that wheat production in the district had recorded an upswing in recent times.
He attributed the success to good agricultural policies and an enabling commercial climate which had been put in place by Government and pledged that his administration would not relent in efforts aimed at maintaining high crop yield.
