GERMAN MINISTER VISITS ZAMBIA

German Federal minister for Economic Cooperation and Development,
Dirk Niebel, will visit Zambia between December 9 and 11.
German Embassy Press Officer Ilona Kankam-Boadu, who announced Niebel’s visit, explained that the visit was aimed at gaining first hand impression of the efforts towards developing Zambia’s rich potential for significant economic progress and reduction of poverty and assessing how Germany can further contribute towards Zambia’s efforts.
Kankam-Boadu said Niebel's delegation, which includes  Members of the German Parliament and the European Parliament, government officials and representatives of German development organisations and members of the German media, would hold discussions with Zambian politicians and representatives of civil society, churches, industry and commerce.
“Minister Niebel and his delegation will arrive in Lusaka on Thursday, 9
December 2010. He will meet with His Excellency President Rupiah Banda and
with Honourable Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, Minister of Finance and National
Planning,” Kankam-Boadu said. “On Friday, 10 December 2010 Minister Niebel will travel to Ndola, Kitwe and Livingstone, where he will meet Hon. Mbulakulima, Minister Copperbelt Province, and Hon. Muchima, Minister Southern Province.
Minister Niebel will also meet several German and Zambian institutions active in our bilateral development cooperation.”
Kankam-Boadu said the German minister would also visit a copper mine in Kitwe and attend the official inauguration of a water kiosk in Livingstone before his delegation depart from Livingstone for Germany.
Germany has been supporting Zambia for more than 40 years.
The main focus of German-Zambian development cooperation is on water and
sanitation, decentralisation and good governance.
