SUDAN ARMED FORCES KILLS 40 REBELS IN SOUTH DARFUR STATE

The spokesman of the Armed Forces, Al-Sawarmi Khalid Saad, announced that the Armed Forces Friday evening attacked the alliance of the rebel Justice and Equality Movement and Sudan People's Liberation Movement - Menawi faction at Shangli Tobaya area, South Darfur State leaving 40 persons dead, seized four military vehicles and a big number of equipment.
The Sudanese News Agency (SUNA) reports that he said that the Armed Force has killed the field commander of the rebel Justice and Equality Movement Mohanmed Osman Janjawid, adding that two soldiers of the Armed Forces have been martyred and 13 men were wounded in the fighting.
Lt. Col. Al-Sawarmi said that the Armed Forces were pursuing the fleeing rebels of the alliance.
He said that this battle represented the first experiment of the rebel alliance which moved from an area southern of the border of 1956, adding that this rebel alliance was still based in Bori town in Bahral-Ghazal State.
